What began this search for you? That is your starting point, being clear about the concerns. It may be as simple as the desire to simplify life and have more leisure time and/ or more socialization. It may be concern about the declining health or mental state of a loved one.
When one is ready...
A senior ready to make this move into a community setting may consider several factors. First look at location - where would you like to live? Do you wish to be close to your current home, your children, a place you've always wanted to live? Secondly, consider your budget. A family with a senior who is fearful, in denial, or resistant to change has a communication step that must be accomplished simultaneously with the quest for the home of choice. Loving communication and thoughtful education are the keys to sharing the reality of the freedom and independence that senior living can bring. We can help, as the fear and dread of "those places" is difficult to overcome with words. We have seen many seniors embrace the move after spending a weekend or series of short respite stays with us.
